Thank you for your interest in the 2026 ‘L.A. to LA’ Scholarship from the Mel and KaLori Bailey Foundation. This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to an incoming Xavier University of Louisiana student from the Southern California area. The ‘L.A. to LA’ Scholarship will be awarded to a 1st year student who’s able to satisfactorily submit the required information.


We're asking that you email a video response to:  info@mkbaileyfoundation.org with answers to the below questions. The subject line of your email should read:

“First Name Last Name 2026 L. A. To LA Scholarship’.


You will not be graded on the production of your video; however, the content must be clear.  Your video submission should be 4 – 6 minutes and can be in the form of a YouTube/Google Drive link. If you send a YouTube link, make sure the privacy is set to Unlisted. If you send a Google Drive link, be sure that the link has no restrictions on who can view it. Please review your video before you submit. 


Videos must be received no later than 11:59pm PST on Friday, July 24th, 2025. 


Within the body of the email, please ensure to include your first & last name, cell phone number, graduating high school, and what your planned major/area of study will be at XULA. There's a likelihood that prior to selection, you may receive a phone call from a MK Bailey Foundation board member or representative. Therefore, be cognizant to answer phone calls and/or check your voicemails. Applicants will be notified that their application was received. The awardee will be announced and presented at the 2026 Send Off, which will take place on Saturday August 1st 2026.



Group 1: Please answer all three of these questions.

  • What are your post-collegiate plans?
    • What steps are you going to implement while at XULA to prepare for them?
  • How would you describe your need for this scholarship opportunity?
    • How would this scholarship opportunity assist you with your short and/or long-term goals?
  • Why did you decide to apply to attend Xavier University of Louisiana?
    • Why did you choose your field of study?


Group 2: Please answer at least 2 of the following questions. 

  • What is your most significant strength?
    • Strengths should be backed up with examples of how it benefits.
  • What is your most significant weakness?
    • The weakness should note the shortcoming with a plan to overcome.
  • Tell us about a mistake that you made, accidentally or intentionally.
    • Explain what you learned from that experience and how you will be able to do your best to avoid it from repeating.
  • Who is your role model and how have their actions inspired you?
    • Also, explain how the shared connection, relationship, or experience has bettered you.
  • What do you think will be the most challenging adjustments you have when going to college?
    • What are you doing or what have you done to prepare for those obstacles?
  • When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
    • Are you satisfied with that image?
  • What does “family” and “legacy” mean to you?
    • What will be your family legacy?
