The Mel & KaLori Bailey Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting deserving individuals and entities through financial assistance. Our flagship program, the Mel Bailey Scholarship, is focused on aiding young men and women from the greater Los Angeles area in their post-secondary education endeavors.
2026 L.A. TO LA SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
Join us in congratulating Myjoi Copeland, recipient of the 2026 L.A. to LA Scholarship from the Mel & KaLori Bailey Foundation.
The L.A. to LA Scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming freshman from Southern California who will be attending Xavier University of Louisiana. Through this scholarship, the Mel & KaLori Bailey Foundation is proud to invest in the education and future of promising young scholars.
Myjoi plans to study Biology Pre-Medicine, with the ultimate goal of becoming an OB-GYN and focusing on Black maternal health in response to the alarming maternal mortality rates facing Black women. She also hopes to establish a nonprofit organization where Black OB-GYNs can connect, collaborate, and mentor young minority girls interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
Myjoi’s commitment to using her education to serve her community is a reflection of the vision behind MKBF. We’re proud to support her as she begins this next chapter and works toward a career dedicated to improving health outcomes and creating opportunities for the next generation.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Raela London and all she continues to accomplish!
In 2024, Raela graduated from Culver City High School and was awarded the LA Bison Scholarship through the Mel & KaLori Bailey Foundation. Through discipline, determination, and countless long nights, she accelerated her undergraduate journey and has graduated from Howard University in just TWO short years. She finished summa cum laude with a 3.96 cumulative GPA and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & Government with a minor in Legal, Strategic, and Mass Communications.
Ms. London’s excellence continues far beyond the classroom:
- 1 of 72 Recipients of an NBA HBCU Fellowship with the Los Angeles Lakers of 10,500+ applicants
- Represented Howard University at the DECA ICDC competition
- Accepted into Columbia University for a master’s program
- Preparing for the LSAT and pursuing her dream of attending law school
- Mentoring future leaders through the Sunflower County Freedom Project
- Awaiting next steps with Yale Launchpad Scholars
Her story is a powerful example of what happens when talent meets hard work, vision, and perseverance. We are honored to have played a small role in her journey and cannot wait to see all that she accomplishes next.
